Cornelious Sardeson
« on: August 18, 2007, 02:19:12 PM »

This person is one of my Sardeson genealogy projects.  I'm trying to find out what really happened to Cornelious Sardeson.  Did he fight in the Civil War for the South?  Did he join a Circus?  When did he die and where is he buried?

Cornelious is one of 2 children of William Sardeson and Anne Moody that puzzle us.

Individual Facts
Birth   20 Mar 1833   Dyke, Lincolnshire, England

Notes (Individual)
General: Cornelious Sardeson is a lost relative. Family legend has it that he left home after an argument with his Father when they were living in the United States. It is believed that he may of been involved in the Civil War on the side of the South. Evidently there is some stories about a Col. Cornelious Sardeson in the Civil War that Professor Fredrick W Sardeson (1866-1958) mentioned in a letter. Another theory is that Cornelious joined a circus which was a popular thing for runaways to do in those days.

Here is some more stuff I found on

Lost - apparently refused to help his father, left home in anger (from Napersville) and was never heard from since. There was a rumour in the1890s of a noted Col. Cornelious Sardeson in Virginia. It had beenthought that Cornelious had joined a circus and gone south -- andduring the civil war the circus horses and men were drafted.
